A family-run business that is synonymous with careful and professional removals. A name that for over 90 years has been
familiar to all those, businesses or families, who have needed a removal firm. The company is still based in Viganello.
Founded in 1916 by Mr. Alfredo Tanzi, at a time when people still
moved house on carts pulled by horses and letters were written on
rudimentary manual typewriters, the company was handed on to
his three sons Luigi, Carlo and Guido, who brought the company into
the modern era with the advent of the lorry and all the new technologies.
In 1978 it was taken over by the Bolliger family, who have successfully
guided it with a firm but modern touch into the twenty-first century.
“We are the only firm in the sector that provides containers for so-called
‘self-storage’,” explains Luana Bolliger, who manages the company’s
removals business. Modern life, as you know, constrains us to live in
much smaller spaces. Not everyone can afford houses that are large
enough to contain all their precious possessions. “We give them this
opportunity by renting these containers in which you can put everything
you can’t bear to part with. The containers,” she continues, “are also, if
not primarily, used as temporary ‘storage’ for some of the furniture being
moved.” In practice, we are able to carry out the removal in stages.
Perhaps the house isn’t ready yet or the client needs to store their own
goods for a while.”
The firm of Bolliger & Tanzi is also involved in the international removals
business and in transporting works of art to anywhere in the world. “We
have a series of contacts who substantially cover the whole world and we
can attend to all the necessary customs formalities. When a client requests

our services, they basically don’t need to worry about anything,” comments
manager Arthur Bolliger with a certain pride.
We are very proud of our workforce at Bolliger & Tanzi. “They work for
us full time and all have regular work permits and social security insurance.
They have taken special courses provided by our association to become
skilled packagers, joiners, loaders, etc. We do not use temporary workers, a
company decision that has proved the right one. Loyalty always pays,” adds
Arthur Bolliger. The company employs 50 people full time, including
10 administrative employees. Annual turnover is around 8 million Swiss
francs. The company is organised into five separate departments: special
shipments of works of art; European and Overseas removals; National and
Local removals; office removals ; storage and warehousing.
In October 2002 they decided to combine the names of the two families
that played such an important role in the company’s history, and it became
Bolliger & Tanzi Sa.
