examines syntactic, morphological and phonological examples of first language research.

Psycholinguistic Aspects of Bilingualism Barış Kabak

In this course, we will explore various aspects of bilingualism from a psycholinguistic
perspective. We will look at a wide range of issues central to the understanding of the
complex nature of the bilingual mind and how the multi-language user represents and
processes linguistic information. A selection of key classic articles on the study of
bilingualism will be discussed under the following headings: (i) early bilingual development,
(ii) the bilingual brain and lateralization, (iii) bilingual language processing (phonological and
syntactic processing, lexical access, and the architecture of the bilingual lexical system), and
(iv) the cognitive effects of bilingualism (e.g., the relationship between bilingualism and
intelligence).
