Ling 334 46 Semantic Web Claus Zinn Do, 10 - 12 Uhr, G 209 Mo, 9 - 10 Uhr, G 209 Übung In this course, students will learn the basic notions and technologies underlying the Semantic Web. At the end of the course, students should be in a good position to appreciate ongoing developments in this area, in particular, those aspects touching the connection between Natural Language Processing and the Semantic Web. The course will be based primarily on "A Semantic Web Primer", by Antoniou & Van Harmelen (for the core technology aspect of the Semantic Web). This will be complemented by a reading list to cover various NLP aspects (TBA). Objectives: Student in the course will have an opportunity to: - Become familiar with the principal terminology, concepts and techniques of the Semantic Web. - Learn how NLP techniques could help closing the gap between the WWW and the Semantic Web - Use existing tools to extract semantic information from web content. Das Seminar will ein genaueres Verständnis dieser Theorie von Kompetenz und Performanz vermitteln, um u.a. alternative Entwürfe dazu im Detail begreifbar zu machen. Literatur: Chomsky, N. Leistungsnachweis: Übernahme von Referaten; schriftliche Hausarbeit Ling 344 Psycholinguistic Aspects of Bilingualism Barış Kabak Di, 16 - 18 Uhr, G 300 Erster Termin: 20.04.2010 In this course, we will explore various aspects of bilingualism from a psycholinguistic perspective. We will look at a wide range of issues central to the understanding of the complex nature of the bilingual mind and how the multi-language user represents and processes linguistic information. A selection of key classic articles on the study of
47 bilingualism will be discussed under the following headings: (i) early bilingual development, (ii) the bilingual brain and lateralization, (iii) bilingual language processing (phonological and syntactic processing, lexical access, and the architecture of the bilingual lexical system), and (iv) the cognitive effects of bilingualism (e.g., the relationship between bilingualism and intelligence).
