Everybody In Our Family
Der rumänische Regisseur Radu Jude erzählt rund fünf Stunden aus dem Leben von Marius, der getrennt
von seiner Frau lebt und die gemeinsame Tochter Sofia nur jeweils ein Wochenende pro Monat sehen darf.
Gestresst vom morgendlichen Kater, dem Kampf gegen das Nikotin, dem kaputten Auto und vom anstehenden
Besuch bei der Ex fährt er los, um Sofia abzuholen, und, um mit ihr ein paar Tage ans Meer zu fahren.
Die Mutter hat jedoch bereits etwas anderes mit dem Kind geplant, also kommt es zum Streit. Lange dauert
der Besuch bei der Patchworkfamilie (Oma und neuer Freund seiner Frau inklusive) nicht, der Zuseher erlebt
ihn in Echtzeit, aber das macht diesen nicht weniger herausfordernd und spannend. In seiner typischen
Verdichtung der Handlung auf der Zeit- und Erzählebene und getragen von einer inszenatorischen Ökonomie,
entwickelt Radu Jude eine intensive Studie über Familienstreitigkeiten, welche die Aufmerksamkeit
des Zusehers in jeder Einstellung vielfach belohnt. Das Grundthema des Films, eben ein Familienstreit, ist so
universell wie intim und Jude schöpft das Potenzial, den Zuschauer assoziativ und persönlich zu involvieren
bis aufs Äußerste aus. Mit Everybody In Our Family lässt er damit seine Zuseher nicht nur einmal in einen emotionalen
und paradoxerweise sehr lohnenden Albtraum blicken.
Romanian director Radu Jude depicts five hours from the life of Marius, who lives separated from his wife
and can only see their daughter Sofia for one weekend a month. Stressed out by a morning hangover, his
struggle with nicotine, his broken car and the upcoming visit to his ex, he sets off to pick up Sofia in order to
take her to the ocean for a few days. However, the mother has already made other plans for the child, which
leads to a heated argument. Marius’ visit to the patchwork family (including the grandmother and his wife’s
new boyfriend) doesn’t last long. The viewer experiences this family get-together in real-time, which doesn’t
make it any less challenging or fascinating. By characteristically compressing the action on both the time and
the narrative level and by staging it all in a minimalist setting, Radu develops an intense study of family affairs,
which rewards the viewer’s attention in every scene. The film’s main topic, a family argument, is as universal
as it is intimate, and the director exploits its potential to the maximum by involving the viewer associatively
and personally. Thus, Everybody In Our Family provides the viewer with strong insight into an emotional nightmare,
which, ironically, turns out to be very worthwhile in the end.

BIOGRAFIE RADU JUDE
Radu Jude wurde 1977 in Bukarest geboren. Er studierte bis 2003 Medizin
in Bukarest, ehe er als Regieassistent, unter anderem von Costa
Gavras, zu arbeiten begann. Er ist Regisseur und Drehbuchautor. Sein
The Tube with a Hat war 2007 der bei Filmfestivals erfolgreichste Kurzfilm
überhaupt. 2009 feierte sein erster Langspielfilm The Happiest Girl
in the World auf der Berlinale seine Premiere.
