SRETNO DIJETE
Lucky Kid
Das sozialistische Jugoslawien der frühen 1980er Jahre wird
von Schicksalsschlägen gebeutelt: Präsident Tito stirbt, aus
Polen kommen beunruhigende Nachrichten und das Land
steckt in einer wirtschaftlichen Sackgasse. Die Jugend flüchtet
sich in ein Leben, das der Song Imagine Life in the Rhythm
of Dance Music wohl am besten beschreibt. Aufstrebende
Socialist Yugoslavia of the early 1980s is stricken by crises. Tito, the Yugoslavian president, has died and economically, the country has
reached a dead end. There are also alarming news coming from Poland. The youth takes refuge in a life which is probably best described
by the song Imagine Life in the Rhythm of Dance Music. With their passion for rock ‚n‘ roll, punk and new wave, emerging bands are breaking
through language barriers and the bleak daily routine. The music of a great underground scene and club culture gains popularity
and the new distinct sound and its corresponding lifestyle are soon reviving Zagreb’s grey streets. For his celebrated documentary,
Croatian director Igor Mirković, a small boy in the 80s, travelled 25 years later to Zagreb, Ljubljana, Belgrade, Vienna, Budapest, Utrecht,
Paris and New York. In search of his idols from a time which influenced him greatly. Accompanied by rare archive footage, this very
personal film is not only a self-centred trip into an exciting past, but also an attempt to understand one’s own roots, which are also
those of an entire generation.
