Wenn das Publikum nicht ins Kino kommen kann, dann muss eben der Film seinen Weg zum Publikum finden.
INTERCULTURAL ENCOUNTERS AT EYE LEVEL
If the audience can’t make it to the movie Theater, the films simply have to find their way to the audience.
EU XXL Die Reihe bringt das Kino erfolgreich ins Dorf.
Im Herbst 2006 startete EU XXL Die Reihe als Pilotprojekt in vier niederösterreichischen Gemeinden. Ziel war
es, in ländlichen Regionen ohne regulären Kinobetrieb, die örtliche Bevölkerung für den heimischen und
europäischen Film zu begeistern. Die notwendigen Zutaten waren klar und gegeben: ein Partner vor Ort,
die gute alte DVD, eine Leinwand, eine Förderung des Landes NÖ und ein Sponsor – die Raika NÖ-Wien.
Das Team von EU XXL Die Reihe sichtete unzählige Filme, klärte Rechte, ließ Plakate und Programmhefte
drucken und zauberte schließlich in Büchereien, Gasthäusern, Gemeindesälen oder Kulturkellern eine
überaus kinoähnliche Atmosphäre. Was im ersten Jahr ein Flop zu sein schien, nur knapp 800 Menschen
kamen ins Wanderkino, entwickelte sich langsam, aber stetig zu einer Erfolgsstory. Nach mittlerweile sechs
Jahren Arbeit sahen zuletzt über 7000 Menschen in sieben Bundesländern die Filme ihrer Wahl in ihrem Dorf,
im Wanderkino des 21. Jahrhunderts.

EU XXL Die Reihe successfully brings cinema to the countryside.
In the fall of 2006, EU XXL Die Reihe started as a pilot project in four Lower Austrian municipalities. It aimed
at filling the population of rural areas without a regularly operating movie Theater with enthusiasm for
the domestic as well as for the European cinema. The necessary ingredients were obvious and given: a
local partner, the good old DVD, a projection screen, funding by the state of Lower Austria and a sponsor,
Raika NÖ-Wien. The team of EU XXL Die Reihe viewed countless films, clarified rights, had posters and programs
printed and finally succeeded in creating a very cinema-like atmosphere in libraries, guesthouses,
community halls or culture cellars. What seemed to flop the first year – merely 800 people visited the
travelling cinema – slowly but steadily turned into a success story. After six years of work, lately more
than 7000 people in seven states watched the movies of their choice in their village, in the travelling
cinema of the 21st century.

Polen Lichtempfindlich (Polska Światłoczuła)
Das Projekt Polen Lichtempfindlich breitet sein Netz über das ganze Land aus und entdeckt dabei spezielle
Orte, um für die Filmvorführungen eine einzigartige Atmosphäre zu schaffen: im Gefängnis, in
Kirchen, in vergessenen kleinen Opernsälen, in Kulturzentren – und das oft in Anwesenheit von Filmschaffenden.
Die Filmvorführungen – Spiel-, Dokumentar- und Zeichentrickfilme – laden zur Diskussion
über Filmkunst und im weiteren Sinne auch über die polnische Kultur ein. Polen Lichtempfindlich will
das näher bringen, woran Regisseure sehr lange arbeiten, mitunter jahrelang, und das dann nur für ein
paar Momente in den Kinos der Großstädte zu sehen ist, kleinere Ortschaften jedoch nie erreicht. Die
Filme werden in Digitalkopien aus Digitalprojektoren der Spitzenklasse ausgestrahlt, vergleichbar mit
der Qualität in den besten Kinosälen einer Großstadt. Das Projekt ist zwar derzeit nur für ein Jahr geplant,
sollte jedoch im Kalender für wichtige Kulturereignisse einen dauerhaften Platz finden.

Poland light-sensitive (Polska Światłoczuła)
The project Polska Światłoczuła is spreading out all over the country, discovering special places in the
process in order to create a unique atmosphere for film screenings: in prison, in churches, in small forgotten
opera halls, in cultural centres – often in the present of film makers. The screenings – feature
films, documentaries and animated movies – encourage to debate on cinematic art and in broader
terms also on Polish culture. Polska Światłoczuła aims to bring closer what directors are working on for a
long time, sometimes for years, and what then can only be seen for a few moments in the major cities’
cinemas, but never makes it to smaller villages. Top-class digital projectors are used to show the digital
copies of the films, achieving a quality comparable to the best movie Theaters in the big cities. At this
point, the project is scheduled to exist for one year only; however, it should find its way into becoming
a permanent entry in the calendar of important cultural events.
