MC SE 09 Dynamic Gaussian Force Field Controlled
Kalman Filtering For Pointing Interaction
In this paper, we compare different
designs for a touch tablet interface
to support a simple, repeated task
with high visual load in itself. A
user-centered approach was applied
throughout the development.
Expert users were involved in the
analysis, design and evaluation of
an application for time tracking in a
production planning environment.
In a lab user study, touch gestures
and multi-touch input outperformed
screen buttons in terms of
visual demand, while error rate and
efficiency remained stable. A subsequent
expert evaluation in the wild
confirmed these results. This shows
that for repeated tasks with high
visual load, more complex touch
interaction may be preferred than
simpler but widespread techniques.
As human computer interaction
is extending from the desk to the
whole room, modalities allowing for
distant interaction become more
important. Distant interaction however,
is inherently inaccurate. Assisting
technologies, like force fields,
sticky targets, and target expansion
have been shown to improve pointing
tasks. We present a new variant
of force fields that are modeled
using Gaussian distributions, which
makes placement and configuration
as well as overlap handling straight
forward. In addition, the force fields
are dynamically activated by predicting
targets, to allow for natural and
fluent movements. Results from a
user study show, that the dynamic
Gaussian fields can speed up the
time needed to click a button with a
pointing gesture by up to 60%.
MC SE 09 WeBewIn: Rapid Prototyping
bewegungsbasierter Interaktionen
GW 2 B3009
In diesem Beitrag werden erste
Ergebnisse in der Entwicklung
eines Werkzeugs für bewegungsbasierte
Interaktionen (WeBewIn)
vorgestellt. Es erlaubt die Spezifikation
von im Raum ausgeführten
Körpergesten (Posen und Bewegungsabläufe)
mittels Vormachen
(By-Demonstration). Die so erfassten
Gesten können, mit oder ohne
Nachbearbeitung, sofort an ein
werden. Auf Basis ausführbarer
Modelle können komplexe Gestenabläufe
im Kontext verschiedener
Interaktionssequenzen überprüft
werden. WeBewIn ermöglicht so
ein Rapid Prototyping von Gesteninteraktionen
in einer kombinierten
benutzer- und technik-basierten
Vorgehensweise.
