<strong>Die</strong> „<strong>Tropenstation</strong> <strong>La</strong> <strong>Gamba</strong>" in Costa Rica – Wissenschaftlicher Bericht<br />

Chacarita, near <strong>La</strong> <strong>Gamba</strong>. The community with most interaction with the forests, Alto<br />

<strong>La</strong>guna de Osa (indigenous territory), is located at the Osa peninsula, which in turn is inside<br />

the area of interest of the Programa Institucional Osa Golfo Dulce (PIOSA) of the University<br />

of Costa Rica (UCR). This program is related to a university area [recinto] in Golfito (a few<br />

kilometers from <strong>La</strong> <strong>Gamba</strong>).<br />

PIOSA actually maintains around 15 projects of investigation, education and outreach<br />

(acción social) in different fields such as archaeology, social anthropology, biology, among<br />

others, linking academic practice and knowledge with local organizations such as the<br />

indigenous communities. Altogether represents ideal conditions for a local cooperation<br />

between the UCR and the University of Vienna (UNIVIE), coordinated by the LAI, in the<br />

field of biocultural investigation and its application for human development in the region.<br />
