Dr Peter Magubane is an internationally acclaimed photographer
who has published a dozen books on the people and events of
South Africa. His work appears in magazines and other printed
media all over the world, and he has won numerous awards and
recognitions.
He embarked upon his long and distinguished photographic career
in 1954, when he joined the South African magazine Drum. In the
early 60s he exhibited his work in London and Germany. From 1966
he worked for the Rand Daily Mail covering the political events of
the day. In 1980 he received a scholarship from the Ford Foundation
to study documentary film making in the United States. In the 80s
and 90s he worked in New York for Time magazine and is currently
at its Johannesburg office.
