23.3.3.1 Legal status categories<br />
With over 2,600 legal status codes, legal status searches using these codes can be a challenge even for an<br />
experienced searcher. The codes vary between patent offices and even the description text may change over time.<br />
Therefore, <strong>to</strong> successfully complete a comprehensive search a detailed knowledge of the various patent<br />
examination procedures is indispensable.<br />
In order <strong>to</strong> better help searchers legal status categories were introduced that group all codes on a particular theme.<br />
These seven category codes cover the most needed fields.<br />
The category codes are searched in the /LSC2 search field:<br />
