23.6 Notes on the legal status date
Application and priority data as well as publication data (e.g. of OPI and patent documents) are identical in all STN
patent databases with legal status information.
Varying date information (and dates lying in the future in PATDPA) may appear in case of:
Rejection, withdrawal, or expiration of the patent,
Change of the patent assignee or his agent.
The reason for this is that in these cases not the effective date is entered into the databases but the date of
publication in the respective Patent Gazette.
While a change in the legal status, together with its date, is recorded in INPADOCDB/INPAFAMDB and PATOSEP only
after the publication, in PATDPA a legal status change (which in fact has been effected) may be announced with its
future date of publication.
