Overlapping numbers exist in the case of application numbers, <strong>to</strong>o, and make it necessary <strong>to</strong> append a code for the<br />

type of application and/or priority <strong>to</strong> the number.<br />

Utility model application numbers have a U appended except Germany where the current application<br />

number format includes the information that this is a utility model application,<br />

For technical reasons (see above), there may be a need <strong>to</strong> create dummy application or priority numbers.<br />

These have one of the following letters appended:<br />

D application numbers,<br />

T priority application numbers,<br />

X application or priority numbers before 1920.<br />
