B, Tavern Yard and Meadow<br />

1. Refine garden demonstrations for the Tavern yard<br />

and garden, such as scything meadow grasses, mana-<br />

ging food gardens to supply a business such as the<br />

Tavern, managing wood for home heating, pressing<br />

cider, and cultivating tobacco.<br />

2. Enclose the Tavern meadow on all sides with fencing<br />

to contain small-livestock like goats and sheep.<br />

3. Write and install story labels describing the 19th<br />

century food gardens which supported the Tavern<br />

and fed its guests.<br />

4. Introduce additional agricultural and farming<br />

implements (authentic or reproduction) to the<br />

Tavern barn. Accompany these with brief interpre-<br />

tive labels.<br />

C. Salt Street Family Gardens<br />

1. Develop specialized 45-minute garden walks on<br />

such topics as:<br />

a. herbs<br />

b. garden shrub roses<br />

c. tree fruits and berries<br />

d. vegetables<br />

e. annual and perennial flowers<br />

f. trees <strong>of</strong> economic importance<br />

D. Folts Field<br />

1. Plan a rotating 2-year schedule <strong>of</strong> field crops and<br />

their approximate harvest dates. This plan should<br />

be included in the training manual and on the inter-<br />

pretive sign in front <strong>of</strong> the field.<br />

2. Prepare instructional sheets and training sessions<br />

on the authentic use <strong>of</strong> agricultural tools in the<br />

the sowing, cultivating, and harvesting <strong>of</strong> rye, flax,<br />

broomcorn, sorghum, field corn, and pumpkins.<br />

3. Research and create authentic costumes for both men<br />
