- originally planted with mixtures <strong>of</strong> herbs and<br />

flowers and edged with low-growing boxwood<br />

- created during the Colonial Revival movement in<br />

this country when people found it fashionable to<br />

try to re-create colonial architecture and landscapes<br />

in 20th century towns<br />

- without maintenance,boxwood continued growth to<br />

its present state<br />

- boxwood covered former planting areas and formed<br />

what some people erroneously refer to as a "maze"<br />
