ISL222 TEXTUAL STUDIES OF THE HADITH<br />

5.0 SUMMARY<br />

• <strong>Hadith</strong> 26 explains <strong>the</strong> meaning and scope <strong>of</strong> charity by saying<br />

that every bone <strong>of</strong> man’s fingers has something to do with giving<br />

charity.<br />

• It also goes fur<strong>the</strong>r to explain o<strong>the</strong>r aspects <strong>of</strong> charity which<br />

include justice between two parties helping a man to lift his<br />

loads, uttering good words, walking to a prayer ground and<br />

removing harmful (thing) away from <strong>the</strong> path.<br />

• <strong>Hadith</strong> 27 defines righteousness as good character and sin as<br />

something we would hate people to know about.<br />

• Good deed is something upon which man’s heart finds tranquility<br />

and contentment.<br />

• Conversely, a sin is something that disturbs <strong>the</strong> mind and pulsates<br />

<strong>the</strong> breast.<br />

• The sermon preached by Prophet was so heart-rending that<br />

people suspected it was going to be his last sermon.<br />

• Their fear provoked a request that <strong>the</strong> Prophet should give <strong>the</strong>m<br />

exhortation before he died.<br />

• His reply which became <strong>the</strong> contents <strong>of</strong> hadith 28 above is that<br />

Muslim should fear Allah, obey constituted authority even if <strong>the</strong><br />

person occupying that post was to be a slave.<br />

• The hadith also stressed that Muslim should hold fast to <strong>the</strong><br />

Sunnah <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prophet as a time would come when people would<br />

involve <strong>the</strong>mselves in frivolous disagreement and allien<br />

innovations.<br />
