ISL222 TEXTUAL STUDIES OF THE HADITH<br />

The ideal virtue <strong>of</strong> man that can make him a beloved by <strong>the</strong> people in<br />

general lies in his ability to renounce this world and all that it contains.<br />

Part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rewards for renouncing this world is to secure <strong>the</strong> love <strong>of</strong><br />

God while keeping away from <strong>the</strong> possessions <strong>of</strong> people, hereby attracts<br />

people’s love and respect.<br />

5.0 SUMMARY<br />

• <strong>Hadith</strong> 31 which is a response to <strong>the</strong> request made by one<br />

companion came in form <strong>of</strong> admonition in which <strong>the</strong> Prophet<br />

asked us to be indifferent to what people possess and this will<br />

earn us <strong>the</strong>ir respect and love.<br />

• <strong>Hadith</strong> 32 stipulates that man should nei<strong>the</strong>r harm o<strong>the</strong>rs nor<br />

allow himself to be harmed.<br />

• <strong>Hadith</strong> 33 discusses man’s penchant for material wealth and<br />

greed.<br />

6.0 TUTOR-MARKED ASSIGNMENT<br />

Write relevant hadith quotation to explain <strong>the</strong> teachings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prophet<br />

on a consequence <strong>of</strong> man’s decision to renounce <strong>the</strong> world.<br />
