48km South Loch Ness
Trail, which opens this
spring? The walking isn’t
too demanding, giving
you all the more time
to keep an eye on the
water for mysterious
movements, and to
enjoy the magnifi cent

This new 21km route is
hardly long distance, but
it will still provide you with
a good day’s walk through
the heart of the beautiful
Croatian National Park
Plitvice Lakes, which has
been included on the
UNESCO list of World
Heritage Sites since 1979.

➳ Great Stones Way
BOURNEMOUTH
It seems strange that it’s
taken until 2011 for the
powers that be to create
a walking trail between the
World Heritage Sites of
Stonehenge and Avebury.
The 60km-long Great
Stones Way opens later this
month, and passes through
the bucolic landscapes
of the Wiltshire Downs, the
Highland scenery along
the way. The trail is also
open to horse riders and
mountain bikers, and it’s
hoped that eventually it
can be extended to link up
with the Great Glen Way
on the north side of the
loch to create a complete
circumnavigation of
Loch Ness.

➳ Corkova Uvala Trail
for its 16 spectacular
waterfalls and beautiful
lakes, the region also has
some pristine forests,
which the Corkova Uvala
Trail passes through.
The 9km-long Plitvice Trail
is a well-signed option
through the forest that
off ers fantastic views
without too much exertion.

Vale of Pewsey, Salisbury
Plain and the Avon Valley,
providing a combination
of incredible vistas and
world-famous prehistoric
archaeology. Fit walkers
should be able to manage
it in a day, but for a gentler
alternative, try the 21km
ramble from Casterley
Camp to Stonehenge.
