➳ BEATRIX RUF
DIRECTOR, KUNSTHALLE ZURICH
“I’m so looking forward to moving
back to the Löwenbräu. We moved out
for a couple of years while it was being
renovated and extended, but when
we go back we’ll have new exhibition
spaces, a bookshop and better offi ces.
It will be a long-term home for the
arts. My original plan for while we
were homeless was to show work in
temporary spaces around Zürich,
but the city found us an abandoned
museum. Our fi rst exhibition opened
in January and we’ll be here until next
year. All the redevelopment in Zürich
West is moving the centre of the city –
for a long time Zürich has been seen as
an international but moderately sized
place. These changes will make it feel
more like a big city.”
➳ AFTER THE ART... “My old favourite
– now everybody’s favourite – is the
Kronenhalle restaurant (4 Rämistrasse,
tel: +41 (0)44 262 9900). It has original
artworks by Picasso and Chagall
hanging on the walls, and when
smoking was banned in Zürich last year
they opened up a fumoir on the fi rst
fl oor. That’s where we all hang out.”
