IIO HISTORY OF AMESBURY.<br />

He held fewer <strong>of</strong>fices than most <strong>of</strong> the eighteen, but was occa-<br />

sionally chosen, and was Prudential man in 1680. He was a<br />

soldier in the fierce Indian wars that raged in 1675 and f°r<br />

some years later, and made his will before marching away, and<br />

it is now on file in the Probate <strong>of</strong>fice at Salem, and is as<br />

follows :<br />

"Edman Elleat The last will <strong>of</strong> Edman Elleat being wall<br />

& in<br />

fitt p memory is a followeth that after my desease my<br />

honest deats being payd y e remainder <strong>of</strong> my Estate I doe<br />

leave w th my wife to be at her disposing tell my son comes<br />

<strong>of</strong> age & then I doe give y e an half <strong>of</strong> my estate to my wife<br />

duering her life & y e other halfe <strong>of</strong> my Estate to my son John<br />

Elleat & after my wife decease I do give my whole Estate to<br />

my son & if my son dyes before he comes <strong>of</strong> age then after<br />

my wifes deseace the remainder <strong>of</strong> my estate that is left I do<br />

give to my nerest relatives that are in England. And I doe<br />

also make my wife my sole Executres as witness my hand.<br />

At court Richard Currier and his son Thomas made oath<br />

that they heard said Elleat declare to them the above will<br />

" when he was going unto the waers," when it was proved<br />

March 17th, 1684. The will, written by Richard Currier, is on<br />

file endorsed " Edmond Elliat will 1684." The inventory<br />

amounted to ^480 n s. 3d.<br />

A lot by y e back River; A lot at Whitch 5 hill; A lot at Red-<br />

in y e new meadows."<br />

He lived on the plain near Sandy hill, not far from that part<br />

owned by the late Rev. N. Lasell, and his inventory confirms
