1724; within three months after y e date here<strong>of</strong> and it is fur-<br />

ther mutually agreed upon by y e s d inhabitants that y e upper<br />

precinct shall have and enjoy y e one half <strong>of</strong> y e pasnage land<br />

and meadows conditionally that they shall and do pay to and<br />

for y e use <strong>of</strong> Mr Wells maintainance after he is disabled for<br />

carrying on y e work <strong>of</strong> y e ministry y e one half <strong>of</strong> what is to be<br />

payd to him and also pay to Mistress Wells y e one half <strong>of</strong><br />

what she must be paid by y e towns agreement with Mr Wells."<br />

It was, also, decided to have a confirmation, and Joseph<br />

Davis was intrusted to lay the matter before the General<br />

Court.<br />

The confirmation was, as follows ;<br />

"In y e house <strong>of</strong> Representatives May y e 29th 1725. Read<br />

and ordered that y e prayers <strong>of</strong> y e petitioners be so far granted<br />

as that y e town <strong>of</strong> <strong>Amesbury</strong> be and hereby is divided into<br />

two separate and distinct precincts by y e line mentioned and<br />

described in y e petition, and that such <strong>of</strong> them shall have exer-<br />

cise and enjoy y e same powers and privileges with y e other<br />

precincts in y e province.<br />

The town voted to have a school kept "one quarter part <strong>of</strong><br />

y e<br />

s u time for this year near or at e<br />

y dwelling house <strong>of</strong> Trestrem<br />

Barnard iff in case there be a convenient place provided."<br />

1726.<br />

The division <strong>of</strong> the town into parishes last year by the General<br />

Court was the occasion <strong>of</strong> an <strong>org</strong>anization <strong>of</strong> a separate church<br />

on the 19th <strong>of</strong> May, as appears by the parish records, from<br />

which the following is taken :<br />
