June 27th. A tempest <strong>of</strong> wind and rain did much damage<br />

to buildings in town, and blew down two-thirds <strong>of</strong> the pines at<br />

the laurel ground across the river.<br />

Capt. Robert Sargent died January 28th in the 9 2d year <strong>of</strong><br />

his age. He was born in -the West parish in 1716, and served<br />

the town in various <strong>of</strong>fices, being selectman in 1758 and 1769.<br />

He was a man <strong>of</strong> some note, having held commission in the<br />

militia for some years.<br />

Col. Isaac Whittier died February 10th, at the West parish,<br />

aged 53,<br />

having served as selectman in 1791 and ten subse-<br />

quent years. He was chosen chairman <strong>of</strong> the board at his first<br />

term, and served as such six years. He was also quite a mili-<br />

tary man, rising to the rank <strong>of</strong> colonel, which was a great<br />

mark <strong>of</strong> distinction at that time. He lived at the River.<br />

Sept. 20th. Levi Blaisdell was drowned in the river near<br />

Pressy's creek.<br />

March 12th.<br />

1809.<br />

Widow Lurvey died, aged ninety-four years.<br />

Sept. 14th. Moses Goodwin died, aged ninety-one years, five<br />

months.<br />

April 27th. Capt. Isaac Randall died, aged eighty-two years.<br />

He was an innholder for many years on Water street at the<br />

Ferry, and his tavern house is now owned and occupied by Mr.<br />

Jonathan Morrill. He served on the board <strong>of</strong> selectmen in 1770,<br />

1772 and 1773, and was chosen moderator at one or more meetings.<br />

Where he was born we have no means <strong>of</strong> knowing, the only<br />

mention <strong>of</strong> the name on the early records being the marriage<br />

<strong>of</strong> " John Randall & Lydia Muzzy <strong>of</strong> Cape Porpos, July 23,<br />

1689." The name does not appear again till 1 75 1, when a<br />

daughter was born to Capt. Isaac Randall.<br />

April 23d. Dr. Nathan Huse died, aged ninety-two years.<br />

Dr. Huse came from West Newbury about the year 1739, when<br />

he was about twenty-two years old, and settled at the High-<br />

lands on the old road south <strong>of</strong> Isaac W. Hoyt's, where he<br />

bousrht a place and established his home. Towards the middle<br />

or latter part <strong>of</strong> his life he built a large house on the hill not<br />

far from his old one, which gave a fine view <strong>of</strong> the country
