been preserved, and is valuable, as showing to some extent the<br />

amount <strong>of</strong> property and industrial interests. The total valuation<br />

was ^2201, 10 s. There were two hundred and seventeen<br />

acres <strong>of</strong> tillage land. The largest amount cultivated by any one<br />

was seven acres, and the following are the names <strong>of</strong> the largest<br />

farmers : Isaac <strong>Merrill</strong>, Esq., seven acres ; Ensign Orlando<br />

Sargent, six acres ; Nathaniel Davis, five acres ; Barnabas Brad-<br />

bury, four acres ; Barzilla Colby, four acres ; Ebenezer Farring-<br />

ton, four and a half acres ; Benjamin Morse, four acres ; Joseph<br />

Moody, four acres ; Samuel Sargent, four acres ; Dea. Stephen<br />

Sargent, four acres ; Thomas Sargent, jr., four acres, and Chris-<br />

topher Sargent, four acres.<br />

The number <strong>of</strong> acres in orcharding was twenty-four and a<br />

quarter, and the largest orchard was that <strong>of</strong> Isaac <strong>Merrill</strong>, Esq.,<br />

containing one and three-quarters acres ; Ebenezer Farrington<br />

owned the next largest orchard, <strong>of</strong> one and one-quarter acres.<br />

Although it is probable that all owned some apple trees, yet<br />

less than one-half had any regular orchard.<br />

The real estate <strong>of</strong> Isaac - <strong>Merrill</strong>, Esq., was valued at ^£47,<br />

7 s., 6d. ; Ens. Orlando Sargent, ,£36, 2 s., 6 d. ; Benjamin<br />

Morse, ^31, 7 s., 6 d. ; Joseph Moody, ^30, 15 s. ; Thomas<br />

Sargent, jr., ^27, 10 s, ; Ens. Josiah Sargent, ^,26, 5 s. ; Chris-<br />

topher Sargent, £25, 5 s.; Thomas Rowell, Esq., £28, 15 s.<br />

Barnard Hoyt, £25; Ebenezer Farrington, £26, 12 s., 6 d.<br />

Barnabas Bradbury, £26, 15 s. ; Nathaniel Davis, £28, 5 s.<br />

Jacob Harvey, £24; Caleb Pilsbury, £22, 7 s., 6 s.; Dea<br />

Stephen Sargent, £24, 10 s. ; Capt. John Sawyer, £22, 5 s.<br />

Four Negroes were owned, viz. : Isaac <strong>Merrill</strong>, Esq., two<br />

Benjamin Morse, one ; Wells Chase, one. There were fifty-one<br />

horses, one hundred and seventeen oxen, two hundred and<br />

seventy-four cows owned, and £29, 15 s. at interest.<br />

Jacob Harvey owned two mills, which were located on Cob-<br />

blers brook, near the wheel factory. Isaac <strong>Merrill</strong>, Esq., kept<br />

nine cows, *Ens. Orlando Sargent seven, Isaac Sargent six,<br />

Ebenezer Farrington six, Barnard Hoyt five, and others from<br />

one to four, and there were fifty who had no cows.<br />
