A FINE INDIAN CHA’AINA, LAHORE, LATE 17TH CENTURY<br />

comprising four plates, the breast and backplate each fitted<br />

with six pierced shaped buckles decorated with gold<br />

koftgari, the side-guards each shaped for the arms and<br />

fitted with four matching buckles, decorated throughout<br />

with a large central panel finely chiselled with scrolling<br />

foliage centring on a shaped cartouche filled with an<br />

expanded flowerhead, the borders filled with a running<br />

pattern of gold koftgari scrolling foliage framed by panels<br />

of stars, the borders with plain gilded turns, and each with<br />

its original silk-covered padded lining the main plates (the<br />

lining with areas of wear)<br />

the borders decorated with fine koftgari cartouches filled<br />

with fine scrollwork (small areas of wear), and the borders<br />

studded with early copper rivets for attaching a lining<br />

the breastplate: 33cm; 13in high<br />
