LATE 16TH CENTURY<br />

of bifurcated form, the inner face left natural, the outer<br />

engraved with an amorous couple in contemporary dress<br />

surrounded by foliage, steel mounts comprising two plain<br />

basal caps, a pair of suspension loops and nozzle with<br />

spring closure (perhaps later, belt hook and nozzle fixing<br />

screws missing)<br />

EARLY 17TH CENTURY<br />

with curved flattened body, the inner face decorated with a<br />

series of concentric circles and the outer decorated with a<br />

large central sunburst within a rondel supported by a pair<br />

of stylised classical warriors, and fitted with later wooden<br />

cap top and bottom, the upper incorporating an engraved<br />

bone nozzle, and with a shaped brass mount (the body<br />

shortened at each end)<br />
