A TURKISH KILIG, 19TH CENTURY<br />

with curved blade double-edged over its upper third and<br />

formed with characteristic reinforced back-edge, decorated<br />

with a silver koftgari calligraphic cartouche on one side and<br />

a shaped panel at the forte (light surface rust and wear),<br />

brass cross-piece with bud-shaped terminals, moulded<br />

brass back-strap, a pair of horn grip-scales (light worm<br />

damage), in its leather-covered wooden scabbard with<br />

large brass mounts (the scabbard now shrunk)<br />

A PERSIAN SHAMSHIR, EARLY 19TH CENTURY<br />

with curved single-edged blade of watered steel, incised<br />

with a calligraphic cartouche and a gold koftgari<br />

calligraphic panel on one side at the forte, steel hilt<br />

comprising cross-piece decorated in the centre with a<br />

panel of calligraphy on each side, short trumpet-shaped<br />

quillons, plain steel cap pommel, and a pair of ivory gripscales<br />

retained by pair of brass rivets (small cracks)<br />
