A SOUTH GERMAN HALBERD, EARLY 17TH CENTURY<br />

with leaf-shaped central blade formed with a medial ridge<br />

and incorporating a pair of short lugs at the base, small<br />

forward leaning axe-blade pierced with three groups of<br />

circles, flat rear fluke pieced en suite, stamped with a<br />

mullet mark on one side and with an up-turned lug at the<br />

top, tapering faceted socket, and a pair of short straps (one<br />

repaired) on a later wooden haft<br />

mark, in a shield four pellets divided by a cross, on one<br />

side and with an tightly curled lug at the top, tapering<br />

faceted socket, and a pair of straps (one repaired), on a<br />

later wooden haft<br />

PROBABLY SWEDISH<br />

with long spike of diamond-section formed with a moulded<br />

base, curved axe-blade stamped with a mark, in a heart a<br />

pair of crossed swords, on one side, formed with a pair of<br />

notched lugs at the rear, curved rear fluke formed with a<br />

recurved lug above, conical socket, and a pair of long<br />

straps, on a wooden haft (the head with small cracks and<br />

chips)<br />
