with heavy octagonal rebrowned barrel, fitted with German<br />

silver fore-sight and standing back-sight, reblued backaction<br />

lock, double set trigger, figured walnut half-stock<br />

(small chips), shallow cheek-piece, brass mounts<br />

comprising small tear-shaped side-plate, spurred triggerguard,<br />

two-piece butt-cap, two reblued steel ramrod-pipes,<br />

German silver barrel bolt escutcheons, and German silver<br />

fore-end cap (later ramrod)<br />

A .36 CALIBRE AMERICAN PERCUSSION PLAINS RIFLE,<br />

MID-19TH CENTURY<br />

converted from flintlock, with heavy octagonal barrel<br />

punched with a band of dots around the muzzle face, fitted<br />

with German silver fore-sight and standing back-sight,<br />

border-engraved lock stamped ‘Atkinson Warranted’ and<br />

decorated with a turkey and a waterfowl on the tail, double<br />

set trigger, figured maple full stock enriched with dark<br />

stained stripes, fluted cheek-piece, circular patch-box with<br />

brass cover (three screws missing), brass mounts<br />

comprising stylised ‘bat-wing’ side-plate, spurred triggerguard,<br />

two-piece faceted butt-cap, and three ramrod-pipes<br />

(perhaps later), and white metal fore-end cap (previously<br />

plated, later ramrod, light wear)<br />
