A PAIR OF PERCUSSION DUELLING PISTOLS BY JOHN<br />

CIRCA 1840-44<br />

with signed browned octagonal sighted barrels numbered<br />

‘1’ and ‘2’ respectively, engraved case-hardened breeches<br />

incorporating the back-sights, engraved case-hardened<br />

bolsters fitted with engraved pierced platinum plugs,<br />

signed engraved case-hardened locks fitted with bolt<br />

safety-catches, highly figured polished walnut half-stocks<br />

(one with a small chip opposite the lock), chequered butts,<br />

and engraved blued steel mounts comprising triggerguards<br />

with stylised pineapple finials, butt-caps, and foreend<br />

caps, silver barrel bolt escutcheons, vacant silver<br />

escutcheons, and with no provision for a ramrod: in their<br />

original mahogany case lined in green baize (compartments<br />

removed), the lid fitted with brass carrying handle and<br />

engraved with the owner’s initials ‘GS’ on an escutcheon<br />

on the outside and with trade label applied on the inside,<br />

(the lid with one small crack), a complete with some<br />

accessories comprising original bullet mould, combination<br />

spanner, three-way red leather flask (nozzle missing) and<br />

combined hammer and rammer<br />
