with octagonal sighted barrels rifled with eight grooves,<br />
rebated muzzles for loading, signed in silver and decorated<br />
with a pattern of delicate silver scrollwork above the<br />
inscription ‘Guss Stahl’ at the breeches, engraved breeches<br />
numbered ‘1’ and ‘2’ respectively, scroll-and border-engraved<br />
breech tangs fitted with adjustable back-sights, scroll-and<br />
border-engraved locks with small stepped tails (one hammer<br />
spur chipped, the other hammer missing), set triggers, highly<br />
figured walnut half-stocks, fluted butts, engraved steel<br />
mounts comprising very small scrolling side-plates, spurred<br />
trigger-guards, engraved butt-caps secured by screw-in<br />
burred finials, German silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and<br />
with no provision for a ramrod: in a later veneered case<br />
complete with some original accessories including combined<br />
hammer and precision loading tool and bullet mould<br />

BEIER IN WIRZBURG, CIRCA 1760<br />
converted from flintlock, with swamped barrels fitted with<br />
‘spider’ fore-sights, signed ‘Michael Beier’ and ‘In<br />
Wirzburg’, numbered 3 and 4 respectively and released by<br />
a brass catch beneath, bevelled lock engraved with simple<br />
border ornament, figured walnut full stock carved with<br />
rococo scrolls and shell ornament about the barrel tang<br />
and further rococo ornament about shaped brass panels<br />
over the fore-end (fore-end cracked on one side) and plain<br />
brass side-plate and pommel (trigger-guard and ramrod<br />
each missing, pommel repaired)<br />
