CLINICAL TRIALS AND PRECLINICAL INFRASTRUCTURE ASSET MAP
Clinical Trials Support Units
The health authorities have five clinical trials support units to aid individual investigators in their clinical
trials. These are shown in Figure 1, summarized in Table 3, and described in Appendix 2. The units generally
offer the following services:
• Study design, methodology, and protocol development
• Budget planning and/or review
• Assistance with REB submission
• Regulatory documentation
• Statistical analysis and data management
• Training in clinical trials procedures and GCP
• Pharmacoeconomic analysis (at Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute [VCHRI] [through
the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology & Evaluation] and Providence Health Care Research Institute
[through the Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences])
• Provision of trained nurses (at Child & Family Research Institute [CFRI] and VCHRI)
• Provision of study/ clinic space (at CFRI, VCHRI and VIHA Research Department).
In addition, the Laboratory-Clinical Studies Unit at the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) provides
laboratory support and testing for clinical trials.
