Canadian Northwest FASD Partnership<br />

Under the leadership of CFRI in Vancouver, this network includes researchers in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba,<br />

(www.cnfasdpartnership.ca)<br />

<strong>and</strong> the 3 northern territories. More than 150 research protocols pertaining to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)<br />

are active within the network.<br />

Canadian Stroke Consortium (www.strokeconsortium.ca) Academic alliance committed to the pursuit of anti-stroke therapies, Chaired by U<strong>BC</strong>’s Phil Teal (Director of the B.C.<br />

Centre for Stroke <strong>and</strong> Cerebrovascular Diseases) <strong>and</strong> involving over 135 Canadian neurologists <strong>and</strong> research consultants.<br />

Canadian Stroke Network (www.canadianstrokenetwork.ca) Canadian Federal government Network of Centres of Excellence (NCE) based in Ottawa involved in stroke research. Brian<br />

MacVicar, U<strong>BC</strong>, is one of the Theme Leaders (he does not work in clinical trials).<br />

NeuroDevNet (www.neurodevnet.ca) This pan-Canadian NCE is focused on FASD, autism, <strong>and</strong> cerebral palsy. It is led by Dan Goldowitz of CMMT <strong>and</strong> CFRI (he<br />

does not work in clinical trials). It involves clinicians <strong>and</strong> scientists from across Canada who are dedicated to studying<br />

children’s brain development from both basic science <strong>and</strong> clinical perspectives.<br />

PrioNet Canada (www.prionetcanada.ca) Based at U<strong>BC</strong> in Vancouver, this NCE is dedicated to prion research <strong>and</strong> directed by U<strong>BC</strong>’s Neil Cashman (he does not work<br />

in clinical trials). Has researchers at nine Canadian universities (from Prince Edward Isl<strong>and</strong> to B.C.), two foreign universities,<br />

23 government departments <strong>and</strong> agencies, <strong>and</strong> 8 industrial partners.<br />

International<br />

Pacific Rim Workgroup Against Epilepsy (no URL) CFRI’s Peter Wong is a founding member.
