Edward Miller Clinical Research Unit, BCCA - Fraser Valley Centre
The BCCA - Fraser Valley Centre (www.bccancer.bc.ca/RS/FraserValleyCentre/) is one of five full service
cancer centres of the BCCA, providing oncology consultations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments
for people who live in the Fraser Valley. The BCCA - Fraser Valley Centre is an active research clinic.
Clinical trials are an extremely important aspect of its clinical care and the Edward Miller Clinical Research
Unit (CRU) is involved in a growing research program (www.bccancer.bc.ca/RS/FraserValleyCentre/research.htm).

The Unit conducts primarily Phase II and III clinical trials. It conducts very limited Phase I activity and occasionally
undertakes Phase IV trials. It accrues approximately 70 patients per year.

Potential clinical trials are reviewed at the Fraser Valley Centre by investigators, the CRU, and centre
processes affected by a given trial prior to approval.
Quality control procedures are based on extensive BCCA Standard Operating Procedures compliant
with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. All research staff are trained appropriately in clinical trials
and GCP.

Medical Oncology Clinical Trials Unit, BCCA Vancouver Centre
The Medical Oncology CTU at the BCCA’s Vancouver Centre consists of three business units, each specializing
in specific tumor sites (see Figure A3). Each business unit team is led by a dedicated oncologist/
Principal Investigator.
