CDRD is broadening activities beyond B.C. into other areas of Canada and North America. CDRD provides drug development expertise and infrastructure to enable researchers throughout B.C. to develop promising drug candidates. It has a goal to simultaneously improve efficacy, ADME, and toxicology results. The CDRD commercial arm, Drug Development Inc (DDI), licenses technologies from affiliated institutions CDRD Capabilities include: • Target Validation Genomic and proteomic techniques, including microarray analyses of gene expression, comparative proteomic analyses, and bioinformatics. This technology applies to areas as diverse as identifying novel drug targets and determining side effects. • Drug Screening Drug Screening Division offers in-vitro and cell-based assays suitable for medium- to high-throughput drug screening with liquid-handling robots and a suite of instruments for the detection of biological or biochemical activity. • Libraries of defined pure chemicals from discovery and combinatorial chemistry, together with peptides and natural product extracts, are available for screening for potential drug activity. • Medicinal Chemistry Medicinal Chemistry Division optimizes lead compounds derived from rational design and screening processes; with modern synthetic methods and principles to design and synthesize novel compounds for biological and toxicological evaluation. • Drug Delivery Drug Delivery division focuses drug formulation, both NCEs and novel macromolecular therapeutics from proteomics and genomics research. CDRD has capabilities in all types of drug formulation, and specific expertise in nano-delivery. Nano-particulate carriers can target drugs specifically to disease sites • Pharmacology and Toxicology Pharmacology and Toxicology Division provides in-vitro and in-vivo assays to determine the safety and efficacy of novel therapies. Drug-like qualities can be evaluated in vitro using a broad range of assays that measure efficacy, drug-drug interactions, cardiovascular safety, absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADME/Tox).

It provides applied research services to validate and commercialize medical, industrial and consumer products and processes, and perform contract services to research and develop proof of concept prototypes. It consists of a team of business analysts, social scientists, engineers, technologists, industrial designers, manufacturing specialists and project managers able to conduct and co-ordinate all aspects of verification and validation of a specific product’s performance. PART offers a systems based approach to strategic innovation for products and processes that exceed their expectations. Product areas include consumer and industrial electro/mechanical/textile including Medical, Safety and Assistive Devices product research & development.
