Biomarker Translation and Development
B.C. has a large cohort of researchers who are identifying biomarkers of disease such as cardiovascular
events, cancer, CNS and pulmonary diseases, infection, and transplant rejection, and translating these
to clinical use. The key institutions involved in biomarker translation and development are listed in Table
11. Information on each of these centres can be found in Appendix 9 (sections 3, 5, 7, and 13). Of the
more than 2,100 trials included in this report, 27 (funded with over $1M) involved the translation of
biomarkers.
Networks
Provincial networks have been established to leverage expertise within individual B.C. institutions. These
have produced broad-based capabilities that are a lot more than the sum of the parts. The 13 networks
listed in Table 12 support clinical studies.
