Grounds for Mandatory Suspension<br />

Below is a list of mandatory grounds for suspension:<br />

1. Possessed, sold, or otherwise furnished any knife, or other dangerous object.<br />

2. Possessed, sold or otherwise furnished, or been under the influence of any<br />

controlled substance, alcoholic beverage, or intoxicant of any kind.<br />

3. Offered, furnished, or sold any substitute substance represented as a controlled<br />

substance, or intoxicant of any kind.<br />

4. Committed or attempted to commit robbery or extortion,<br />

5. Stole or attempted to steal material school or private property.<br />

6. Unlawfully possessed, offered, furnished, or sold any drug paraphernalia.<br />

7. Knowingly received stolen school or private property.<br />

8. Committed hate crimes.<br />

Grounds for Discretionary Suspension<br />

Below is a list of grounds for discretionary suspension:<br />

1. Threatened, attempted, or caused physical injury to another person.<br />

2. Willfully used excessive force or violence upon the person of another, except in<br />

self-defense.<br />

3. Disrupted school activities or willfully defied the valid authority of school<br />

personnel.<br />

4. Was party to actions that caused the mandatory suspension of another student.<br />

5. Willfully damaged or vandalized school property.<br />

6. Committed an obscene act or engaged in habitual profanity or vulgarity<br />

7. Committed sexual harassment.<br />

8. Possessed or used tobacco or any product containing tobacco or nicotine<br />

products, including clove cigarettes.<br />

PROCEDURES FOR SUSPENSION<br />

1. Informal Conference<br />

Suspension shall be preceded by an informal conference conducted by the <strong>School</strong><br />

Director with the student and his/her parent/guardian. At the conference the<br />

student will be informed of the reason for the disciplinary action and the evidence<br />

against him or her and will be given the opportunities to present his/her version<br />

and evidence in his/her defense. The conference may be omitted if the <strong>School</strong><br />

Director determines that an emergency situation exists. An "emergency situation"<br />

involves a clear and present danger to the lives, safety or health of students or<br />

school personnel. In the event the student is suspended without conference, the<br />
