5. Do not move the victim unless there is danger of further injury. Do not give<br />
the victim anything to eat or drink.<br />
6. Draft written incident report and submit it to <strong>School</strong> Principal, or his/her<br />
designee, before the end of the next workday.<br />
• Earthquakes:<br />
Earthquakes strike without warning, and the major shock is usually followed by<br />
numerous after shocks, which may last for weeks or months. An earthquake's<br />
effect on buildings will vary from building to building.<br />
The major threat of injury during an earthquake is from falling objects and debris,<br />
and many injuries are sustained while entering or leaving buildings. Therefore, it<br />
is important to remain inside the building and quickly move away from windows,<br />
glass, partitions and shelves. In the case of an earthquake, the following<br />
procedures should be followed:<br />
1. Take cover under a sturdy desk or table, in a doorway, or against an<br />
inside wall until the shaking stops. Give DROP AND COVER command.<br />
2. After shaking stops, check for injuries, and render first aid.<br />
3. If ordered by Executive Director, or his/her designee, evacuate.<br />
4. Do not return to building.<br />
5. Do not light any fires.<br />
6. Keep a safe distance from any downed power lines.<br />
7. Check attendance whether or not evacuation takes place. Report any<br />
missing students to Executive Director, or his/her designee.<br />
8. Stay alert for aftershocks.<br />
9. Beware that shaking may activate fire alarm or sprinkler systems.<br />
10.Elevators and stairways will need to be inspected for damage before they<br />
can be used.<br />
11.Executive Director, or his/her designee, will issue further instructions.<br />
• Assaults:<br />
Assaults involve acts of striking or inflicting injury to a person and are regarded<br />
as serious matters. Any threat or assault on students or employees should be<br />
reported immediately to the <strong>School</strong> Principal, or his/her designee. The <strong>School</strong><br />
Principal (or designee) will determine if law enforcement officials should be<br />
notified.<br />
If a serious assault occurs:<br />
1. Dial 911.<br />
2. Seek first aid or medical attention, if indicated.<br />
