• Utility or Power Failure:<br />
The following procedures should be used in case of utility or power failure:<br />
1. Staff and students should remain in classroom until further instruction.<br />
2. Custodial and maintenance personnel should determine cause of<br />
incident and seek outside assistance if necessary.<br />
3. Staff and students outside of a classroom at the time of the incident<br />
should report to main office.<br />
4. Building and grounds personnel report to utility company if necessary.<br />
5. If situation requires long-term maintenance and repair and prevents<br />
class activities, the <strong>School</strong> Principal, or his/her designee, may take<br />
measures to dismiss school for the day.<br />
6. Where utility failure presents an emergency, evacuation procedures<br />
should be implemented immediately.<br />
• Bomb Threat:<br />
Person receiving call:<br />
1. Listen - Do not interrupt caller.<br />
2. If possible, alert other staff by a pre-arranged signal while the caller is on<br />
the line.<br />
3. In the event that a bomb threat is received, it is important for the person<br />
receiving the call to attempt to keep the caller on the telephone as long as<br />
possible. It is also important to listen carefully to all information provided<br />
by the caller and to make a note of any voice characteristics, accents, or<br />
background noises.<br />
4. Attempt to ask questions and elicit the information required to determine<br />
the severity of the threat.<br />
5. Notify <strong>School</strong> Principal, or his/her designee, immediately.<br />
The <strong>School</strong> Principal, or his/her designee will:<br />
1. Notify Police Department — Dial 911.<br />
2. With the assistance of responding law enforcement personnel, conduct a<br />
thorough search of the building & surrounding areas:<br />
o Classrooms and work areas.<br />
o Public areas - foyers, office bathrooms and stairwells.<br />
o Lockers and unlocked closets.<br />
o Exterior areas -- shrubbery, trashcans, debris boxes, gas valves,<br />
etc.<br />
o Power sources -- electric panels, telephone panels, computer<br />
rooms, etc.<br />
3. With assistance from responding law enforcement personnel and/or Fire<br />
Department, the <strong>School</strong> Principal, or his/her designee, will evaluate the<br />
