• Utility or Power Failure:
The following procedures should be used in case of utility or power failure:
1. Staff and students should remain in classroom until further instruction.
2. Custodial and maintenance personnel should determine cause of
incident and seek outside assistance if necessary.
3. Staff and students outside of a classroom at the time of the incident
should report to main office.
4. Building and grounds personnel report to utility company if necessary.
5. If situation requires long-term maintenance and repair and prevents
class activities, the School Principal, or his/her designee, may take
measures to dismiss school for the day.
6. Where utility failure presents an emergency, evacuation procedures
should be implemented immediately.
• Bomb Threat:
Person receiving call:
1. Listen - Do not interrupt caller.
2. If possible, alert other staff by a pre-arranged signal while the caller is on
the line.
3. In the event that a bomb threat is received, it is important for the person
receiving the call to attempt to keep the caller on the telephone as long as
possible. It is also important to listen carefully to all information provided
by the caller and to make a note of any voice characteristics, accents, or
background noises.
4. Attempt to ask questions and elicit the information required to determine
the severity of the threat.
5. Notify School Principal, or his/her designee, immediately.
The School Principal, or his/her designee will:
1. Notify Police Department — Dial 911.
2. With the assistance of responding law enforcement personnel, conduct a
thorough search of the building & surrounding areas:
o Classrooms and work areas.
o Public areas - foyers, office bathrooms and stairwells.
o Lockers and unlocked closets.
o Exterior areas -- shrubbery, trashcans, debris boxes, gas valves,
etc.
o Power sources -- electric panels, telephone panels, computer
rooms, etc.
3. With assistance from responding law enforcement personnel and/or Fire
Department, the School Principal, or his/her designee, will evaluate the
