continue to search the premises.<br />

4. If there appears to be imminent danger, a fire drill may be called while<br />

approval for student release or site evacuation is sought. The <strong>School</strong><br />

Principal, or his/her designee, must grant approval for student release.<br />

5. An incident report should be drafted before the end of the workweek.<br />

• Explosion:<br />

If an explosion occurs at the school, the following procedures should be used:<br />

1. Give DROP AND COVER command.<br />

2. Sound building fire alarm. This will automatically implement action to leave<br />

the building.<br />

3. Notify Fire Department — Dial 911.<br />

4. Provide the following information:<br />

O <strong>School</strong> name.<br />

o Building address, including nearest cross street(s).<br />

o Exact location within the building.<br />

o Your name and phone number.<br />

5. Evacuate to outdoor assembly area.<br />

6. Check attendance. Remain with students.<br />

7. Render first aid as necessary.<br />

8. Notify grounds and building personnel.<br />

9. Keep students and staff at a safe distance from the building(s) and away<br />

from firefighting equipment.<br />

10.Public safety officials will determine when the building is safe for re-entry,<br />

and along with <strong>School</strong> Principal, or his/her designee, whether student<br />

release from the school site is necessary.<br />

11.Draft incident report by the end of the week.<br />

• Fighting or Riot:<br />

<strong>School</strong> staff should follow these guidelines when a fight occurs:<br />

1. Send a reliable student to the office to summon assistance.<br />

2. Speak loudly and let everyone know that the behavior should stop<br />

immediately.<br />

3. Obtain help from other teachers if at all possible.<br />

4. If students are starting to gather, attempt to get students away from the<br />

commotion as quickly as possible.<br />

5. Call out the names of the involved students (if known) and let them know<br />

they have been identified.<br />

6. For the safety of all students, get additional help from law enforcement<br />

personnel if confronted with a serious fight, especially one that involves<br />

weapons.<br />
