Citation <strong>Research</strong> on <strong>Westlaw</strong><br />

Limit by Jurisdiction<br />

To limit citing cases by jurisdiction, follow these steps:<br />

1. Click the Jurisdiction arrow at the KeyCite Limits page. A list of jurisdictions that have issued cases<br />

citing your statute is displayed in the right frame, as shown in Figure 12.23. The number following a<br />

jurisdiction shows the number of cases from that jurisdiction that cite your statute.<br />

2. Select the check boxes for the jurisdictions from which you want to retrieve citing references.<br />

3. Click Apply in the left frame.<br />

Limit by Date<br />

You can restrict citing references to documents<br />

■ issued during a specific time period<br />

■ issued before or after a given date<br />

■ added to <strong>Westlaw</strong> during a specific time period or after a given date<br />

Click the Date arrow in the left frame of the KeyCite Limits page. A number of drop-down lists<br />

and text boxes are displayed in the right frame (Figure 12.24).<br />

To restrict the citing references by the decision date or publication date, select Date of Document<br />

in the right frame; then select a restriction from the drop-down list or enter your date restriction<br />

in the After or Before text boxes.<br />
