A tadooba<br />

Access to Energy<br />

The energy and technology types used for<br />

cooking and lighting have an impact on<br />

the health and safety <strong>of</strong> households.<br />

In 2005/6, 11 percent <strong>of</strong> households used<br />

electricity as the main source <strong>of</strong> lighting.<br />

71 percent <strong>of</strong> households used tadooba<br />

(kerosene candle - see picture on left).<br />

The large proportion <strong>of</strong> people using<br />

tadooba indicates the size <strong>of</strong> the problem<br />

<strong>of</strong> indoor smoke pollution in <strong>Uganda</strong>.<br />

14 percent used kerosene lanterns.<br />
