RESOLUTION NO. 13- 156<br />

RECOGNIZING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY <strong>OF</strong> THE KANE <strong>COUNTY</strong> HISTORIC PRESERVATION<br />

ORDINANCE AND IN APPRECIATION <strong>OF</strong> COMMISSION MEMBERS<br />

WHEREAS, the people of the <strong>County</strong> of <strong>Kane</strong> take great pride in the historic buildings,<br />

structures, sites, and landscapes of the <strong>County</strong> that exemplify the heritage or culture of the <strong>County</strong> of<br />

<strong>Kane</strong>, State of Illinois; and<br />

WHEREAS, the <strong>County</strong> of <strong>Kane</strong> is empowered pursuant to 55 <strong>IL</strong>CS 5/5 - 30001 (1992), to<br />

establish and appoint by ordinance a preservation commission and to designate by ordinance<br />

landmarks and preservation districts upon the recommendation of the preservation commission; and<br />

WHEREAS, the <strong>Kane</strong> <strong>County</strong> Board adopted the <strong>Kane</strong>. <strong>County</strong> Historic Preservation Ordinance<br />

establishing said Commission on June 14, 1988, as Ordinance 88-99, making <strong>Kane</strong> <strong>County</strong> the first<br />

county in Illinois to adopt a historic preservation ordinance; and<br />

WHEREAS, the <strong>Kane</strong> <strong>County</strong> Board and the <strong>Kane</strong> <strong>County</strong> Historic Preservation Commission<br />

have received local, state and national awards in recognition of their leadership and accomplishments<br />

in historic preservation, and that by their efforts forty-six individual landmarks, one historic district and<br />

three Rustic Roads have been listed on the <strong>Kane</strong> <strong>County</strong> Register of Historic Places; and<br />

WHEREAS, the <strong>Kane</strong> <strong>County</strong> Board and the <strong>Kane</strong> <strong>County</strong> Historic Preservation Commission<br />

express gratitude and continued support to the owners of properties and road corridors who by their<br />

efforts and stewardship, maintain these historic sites and structures for future generations; and<br />

WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commissioners voluntary service has greatly furthered<br />

the goals of the <strong>Kane</strong> <strong>County</strong> Historic Preservation Plan and provided assistance to historic building<br />

owners in <strong>Kane</strong> <strong>County</strong>.<br />

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the <strong>Kane</strong> <strong>County</strong> Board, that today special<br />

recognition is given to the 25th anniversary of the <strong>Kane</strong> <strong>County</strong> Historic Preservation Ordinance and<br />

appreciation afforded to the members of the <strong>Kane</strong> <strong>County</strong> Historic Preservation Commission and to the<br />

owners of landmarked properties and road corridors.<br />
