Study programme structure:
Programme 1: 2 years. After the first two years students may transfer to another study concentration
(usually to engineering).
Programme 2: 3 years

‘Numerus Clausus’ (Restricted admission): Grade average of the previous year was 7.74 (a 10 in
the Spanish system equates to a 1 in the German system). The ratio on the Spanish Credits to
ECTS Credits is 420/300.
There are two different postgraduate programmes:
Master in historic building preservation
Master in urban design and landscape planning
Currently the university is implementing a new curriculum. The new programme will encompass
five areas. These are generated from the old programme and are as follows: architectural
instruction (Edificacion), urban design (Urbanismo), historic building preservation (Restauración)
and management (Gestión) and the new element „Cooperacion“.
As structural engineering does not exist as a profession in Spain, the degree “Architecture“ includes
the qualification of a structural engineer. For this reason subjects such as structures, building
technology and calculations (physics and mathematics) are key elements of the programme.

The optional courses includes the faculties own optional course offer:
a) 40 Credits „Optativas“ e.g. language courses
b) 20 Credits „Libre Configuracion“ e.g. summer schools
Beyond this there is a large choice of courses for the calculation of structures.
The design studio takes place 2 days a week for 3 hours. On these days there are group critiques.
The students do not work on their designs during this time. Further lectures in theory are seldom
held.
