The assessment <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Leuven relies, for the most part, on the Flemish language<br />

website and as a result <strong>of</strong> the language barrier, can make no claim on integrity.<br />

In the third Bachelor year, the design studio is taught in cooperation with the subject CAAD, in order<br />

to develop presentational and design skills.<br />

Three master programmes are <strong>of</strong>fered:<br />

1. Architectural Design (programme foundation)<br />

2. Urban Design<br />

3. Building Construction Design [Bouwtechnisch ontwerp]<br />

The subject, “Design Studio Interiors“ deals with the highly detailed design <strong>of</strong> furniture.<br />

Compatibility Study 2010/2011<br />

BACHELOR<br />

Every year is dedicated to a specific theme.<br />

In first year housing is dealt with. The course is one year long and entails many small design projects.<br />

The second year focuses on public architecture and the use-conversion <strong>of</strong> existing buildings. This<br />

includes consideration <strong>of</strong> load-bearing structures and the development <strong>of</strong> construction details.<br />

In the third year, students apply their design skills on the urban planning scale. The focus lies in the<br />

relationship between buildings and the urban environment. In Part 3 focuses on the calculation <strong>of</strong> the<br />

structural steel elements <strong>of</strong> the design.<br />

MASTER<br />

Architectural design studio 4 has specific architectural demands: Either a building or a building<br />

ensemble, a museum, a swimming pool, a mausoleum or a crematorium as well as the design <strong>of</strong> a<br />

furniture piece must be completed by the student.<br />

Final Project:<br />

An integrated project in which the student must apply his/her acquired knowledge. A jury <strong>of</strong> at least<br />

three persons grades the assignment on the following three aspects: process (independence, critical<br />

approach, creativity), product (final project) and presentation (hand-in colloquium)
