(Information from Noel J. Brandy, Student Exchange Coordinator)
IE - Dublin Institute of Technology 125
Advising is held at least three times a week. Usually two advisors are present in the studios for
the entire day (each 10 – 12 hours) and on average 4 advisors for half a day (about 4 – 6 hours).
On average there are between 50 and 60 students in the studio spaces.
As in most architecture programmes 50% (15 ECTS) of the programme dedicated to studio work,
the remaining 50% is dedicated to academic subjects. The latter is broken down into three modules.
The calculation of the workload is based on the ECTS system.
For example: 20 hours x 30 ECTS = 600 hours per semester over 12 weeks (with advising) + 1
week (without advising). Furthermore, 1 – 2 weeks of exams are included. The entire semester
is 15 weeks long. In the semester the student should have 25 – 28 hours of advising and work in
discussion with other students; 12 – 15 hours are devoted to independent work.
Design instruction / accompanying lectures:
There are a series of independent lectures, including the annual CRH masterclass programme
which is held in the studios.
