Compatibility Study 2010/2011
Additional Information
Assessment I:
Assessment II:
Assessment III:
Design Project:
Academic Calendar:
WS begins 12.09.2011
SS begins 30.01.2012
ES - Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya 71
Since the winter semester 2010/2011 the ETSAV in Barcelona offers Bachelor and Master
study programmes. The 375 Spanish Credits are distributed over the 5 year programme.
There is no possibility for specialisation during the programme; the students however do
have the oppurtunity to complete a supplementary postgraduate course in ecology and
sustainability.
‘Numerus Clausus’ (Restricted Admission): Grade average of the previous year was: 7.32 (10
in the Spanish grading system equates to a 1 in the German system).
All classes “Proyectos” should be equated with the design studio. In the upper semester
the “Proyectos” are to be chosen from professorships such as urban design or construction
orientated courses.
Construccion III, in the 2. semester (cautrimestre) focuses on the study of wood or metal
materials.
Composición is part of the design instruction and deals with the theory and analysis of
architecture.
At the UPC the design studio includes the subjects Projecto and TAP which belong together.
Projecto is the design instruction and TAP is the practical part of the design.
TAP IV – Projecto IV is an urban design studio. TAP VI – Project VI is conducted in parallel
with urban design.
Here the focus lies less on the design itself, but is rather a theoretical subject with a focus on
the preliminary analysis of the design.
EI PFC (final project) is normally completed in the 5th year. The students must have passed
the TAP X in order to be eligible to begin the final project. This work includes the entire
planning and construction process from pre-planning to final cost-calculation.
The column “other” refers to optional courses and natural sciences.
Optional courses include:
- Faculty optional courses (Optativas)
- Common university optionals (UPC). This is of great advantage, as the UPC has two faculties
of architecture and students therefore have a larger choice of electives within their academic
area. The university offers 26.8 Spanish Credits in structures and structural calculation, thus
forming the university’s specialization. A further university specialization is represented by the
environmental studies courses.
The design studio is held 2 days a week (3 days a week for TAP VI). In a period of 10 hours,
each lecturer advises approximately 20 students.
An introductory class (theory) accompanies the design studios. It is recommended to take part
in this class, it is however not complusory.
During the advising sessions the students work on their design in the studio working spaces,
while the professors correct their work.
From the TAP VII design onwards there are seven different professorships from which the
students can choose courses.
Each professorship has its own focus: e.g. housing, urban design, construction, building
in existing contexts. Since 2010 one of these design studios has been held in the English
language.
