At the beginning of the academic year one topic is chosen from the following topics on offer:
„Architecture & Art“, „Architecture & Well-Being“, „Urban Design“ and „Conservation“. In the lower
years this possibility does not exist. As the students are encouraged to work independently within
the framework of the specified topics (choice of site, building typology, spatial programme...) the
undergraduate work also shows much diversity.
There are, depending on the project chosen, spread out over the course of the year, a number of
shorter problem areas to be solved, by which the student gradually works towards the final design
of the studio project. The last trimester is intended solely for the development of the design project.
Students work in the college, which provides studio spaces for each year. Advising is very
intensive, as the advisers are available to the students several times during the week in studio. No
attendance is required. Advising takes place as it is needed by the students. One lecturer advises
12 - 18 students per design studio.
The difference between professors and assistants, as we know in the German system, does not
exist as the faculty is very small. External examiners are invited to the colloquiums. An entire year
is recommend for ERASMUS study, as only the last of the three trimesters is intended for actual
design work.
