The master programme is designed in such a way that it enables students to create a very individually
tailored choice of subjects and schedule of courses. Since there is no clear division between required
and optional courses, Assessment III was not subdivided into compulsory and optional courses.
Instead, all courses are summarised in the section entitled “entire course offer”.
The duration of a design studio is 1 semester. The group size is generally between 10 and 25
students. One starts with a group of 10 students. Near the end most of the students are offered
individual one hour long consultation sessions. Consultation is provided by the professorship’s staff,
who, for the most part, are practicing architects.
Sometimes group consultations are offered in the design studio. These can, on the one hand, lead to
very difficult situations but, on the other hand, allow for very interesting group discussions.
Final examination: There is a due-date on which plans are submitted, but no presentation is made.
Thereupon a further appointment is made at which the plans are to be presented to the jury. Advising
professors and, if applicable, the client and a number of external architects (usually from Switzerland
or Italy) are present.
In the summer many „holiday design studios“ are offered in conjunction with excursions.
Studio spaces are available only in limited numbers. The students work primarily at home. There are,
however, quite large and good model construction workshops available.
