2084 COMMUNIST ACTIVITIES IN THE PEACE MOVEMENT<br />

Mrs, PosNER. Aga<strong>in</strong> I must decl<strong>in</strong>e, <strong>in</strong>vok<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> fifth amendment.<br />

Mr. NiTTLE. It is <strong>the</strong> committee's <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation that Dorothy<br />

Rosenwald presented and read this proposed structural and procedural<br />

plan at a meet<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong> organization.<br />

Do you have knowledge of this fact?<br />

Mrs. PosNER. The same answer, sir, <strong>the</strong> fifth amendment.<br />

Mr. NiTTLE. I also ought to state <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> record, Mr. Chairman,<br />

that <strong>the</strong> committee possesses no <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation that Mrs. Rosenwald is,<br />

or has been identified as, a member of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Communist</strong> Party.<br />

I want to call your attention also to page 3 of this proposed plan,<br />

Posner Exhibit No. 2. The last paragraph opens with <strong>the</strong>se words:<br />

"We have come a long way s<strong>in</strong>ce November 1, 1961."<br />

Does that date refresh your memory as to <strong>the</strong> time when <strong>the</strong><br />

organiz<strong>in</strong>g meet<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>Women</strong> <strong>Strike</strong> <strong>for</strong> Peace <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> New York, New<br />

Jersey, and Connecticut area took place?<br />

Mrs. PosNER. Aga<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> fifth.<br />

Mr. NiTTLE. Are you personally acqua<strong>in</strong>ted with Mrs. Dagmar<br />

Wilson, who has reportedly described herself variously as <strong>the</strong> starter,<br />

coord<strong>in</strong>ator, funnel, and head of <strong>Women</strong> <strong>Strike</strong> <strong>for</strong> Peace?<br />

Mrs. PosNER. Aga<strong>in</strong> I must decl<strong>in</strong>e to answer on <strong>the</strong> fifth amendment.<br />

Mr. NiTTLE. How long have you known Mrs. Dagmar Wilson, if<br />

you have known her?<br />

Mrs. Posner. Aga<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> fifth.<br />

Mr. NiTTLE. Did Mrs. Wilson play any part at all <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> organization<br />

of your New York group of <strong>Women</strong> <strong>Strike</strong> <strong>for</strong> Peace?<br />

Mrs. Posner. I <strong>in</strong>voke <strong>the</strong> fifth amendment.<br />

Mr. Nittle. Did you obta<strong>in</strong> Mrs. Wilson's approval <strong>for</strong> ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong><br />

proposed structural plan or <strong>the</strong> plan as f<strong>in</strong>ally adopted, evidenced by<br />

Posner Exhibits Nos. 2 and 1, respectively, prior to act<strong>in</strong>g on <strong>the</strong>m<br />

by your organization?<br />

Mrs. Posner. I stand on <strong>the</strong> fifth amendment.<br />

Mr. Nittle. Mrs. Posner, it is <strong>the</strong> committee's <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation that<br />

you were employed as a teacher s<strong>in</strong>ce 1922 <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> New York City<br />

public school system, that you resigned as a teacher on September 4,<br />

1952.<br />

The committee's <strong>in</strong>vestigation discloses that, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> course of such<br />

employment, you were a member of a <strong>Communist</strong> Party fraction of<br />

public school teachers at <strong>the</strong> DeWitt Cl<strong>in</strong>ton High School.<br />

Were you a member of a <strong>Communist</strong> Party fraction of public school<br />

teachers dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> course of your employment at <strong>the</strong> DeWitt Cl<strong>in</strong>ton<br />

High School <strong>in</strong> New York City?<br />

(Witness conferred with counsel.)<br />

Mrs. Posner. May I ask <strong>the</strong> pert<strong>in</strong>ency of that piece of <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation<br />

to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Women</strong> <strong>Strike</strong> <strong>for</strong> Peace <strong>movement</strong>? Is that permitted, Mr.<br />

Doyle?<br />

Mr. Doyle. Yes, <strong>in</strong>deed. The question must always be pert<strong>in</strong>ent<br />

and also <strong>the</strong> answers should be.<br />

Mrs. Posner. Yes.<br />

Mr. Doyle. But, of course, <strong>the</strong> statement I read, I th<strong>in</strong>k, showed<br />

very clearly <strong>the</strong> pert<strong>in</strong>ency of this question, because we are go<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to<br />

<strong>the</strong> question <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>se hear<strong>in</strong>gs of <strong>the</strong> extent, if at all <strong>the</strong>re is any<br />

extent, of <strong>in</strong>filtration of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Women</strong> <strong>Strike</strong> <strong>for</strong> Peace by <strong>Communist</strong>s.
