Mrs. Meyers. T th<strong>in</strong>k, Mr. Doyle, you are very <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong><br />

know<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>d of women who are <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> <strong>Women</strong> <strong>Strike</strong> <strong>for</strong><br />

Peace, and I th<strong>in</strong>k perhaps my tell<strong>in</strong>g this will elucidate<br />

Mr. Tuck. Mr. Chairman, we are <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation<br />

<strong>in</strong> response to <strong>in</strong>quiries, to questions, enunciated by counsel.<br />

Mr. Doyle. We are sorry, but we just can't digress from our<br />

program. We have certa<strong>in</strong> witnesses and a limited time. I know<br />

you will cooperate.<br />

Mrs. Meyers. I certa<strong>in</strong>ly will, Mr. Doyle, but know<strong>in</strong>g j^ou and<br />

your reputation and your agreement with many po<strong>in</strong>ts of our program,<br />

I thought you would like to know me as I was 12 days ago<br />

be<strong>for</strong>e I was subpenaed by this committee, because I am a different<br />

me.<br />

Mr. Doyle. I ^vill be glad to have you tell me outside of <strong>the</strong><br />

committee, <strong>the</strong>n.<br />

Mrs. Meyers. That is just <strong>the</strong> po<strong>in</strong>t I would like to make, sir, that<br />

me answer<strong>in</strong>g your questions <strong>in</strong>side this committee cannot be <strong>the</strong> same<br />

me that is answer<strong>in</strong>g questions of you; and what I do outside this<br />

committee room, I th<strong>in</strong>k you and I would f<strong>in</strong>d mutually very helpful<br />

to us.<br />

Mr. Doyle. I know <strong>the</strong>re are problems <strong>for</strong> all of us. I will have to<br />

ask counsel to just proceed and <strong>for</strong> you to cooperate as far as you feel<br />

it is right <strong>in</strong> answer<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Mrs. Meyers. Yes, I am.<br />

Mr. NiTTLE. Would you relate <strong>the</strong> extent of your <strong>for</strong>mal education?<br />

Mrs. Meyers. I was graduated <strong>in</strong> 1940 from Walton High School.<br />

I received a bachelor of arts degree <strong>in</strong> 1944 from Hunter College and<br />

a master of science <strong>in</strong> education <strong>in</strong> 1958 from Hofstra College.<br />

Mr. NiTTLE. What is your present occupation?<br />

Mrs. Meyers. I am a housewife, sir.<br />

Mr. NiTTLE. I neglected to ask whe<strong>the</strong>r you are represented by<br />

counsel.<br />

Mrs. Meyers. Ably.<br />

Mr. NiTTLE. Would counsel k<strong>in</strong>dly identify himself <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> record,<br />

Mrs. Meyers. No, sir.<br />

Mr. NiTTLE. Did I understand you to state that you had a master<br />

of science <strong>in</strong> education?<br />

Mrs. Meyers. Right.<br />

Mr. NiTTLE. May I ask what is <strong>the</strong> present occupation of your<br />

husband?<br />

Mrs. Meyers. He is an attorney.<br />

Mr. NiTTLE. The last witness' husband is also an attorney, is that<br />

not correct?
