5 LONG TERM PARKING STRATEGIES<br />

5.5 Turramurra (continued)<br />

Below are the parking strategies proposed for this precinct:<br />

• additional on-site retail/business parking in redeveloped strip shop<br />

sites on southern side of Pacific Highway, between Kissing Point<br />

Road and Duff Street, incorporating <strong>Council</strong>’s car park;<br />

• revised parking layout on new Stonex Street (connecting Kissing<br />

Point Road with Duff Street), resulting in approximately 28 on-street<br />

spaces. Introduce 1hr time limit;<br />

• bus Zone on eastern side of Kissing Point Road (north of Boyd<br />

Street) to remain as existing; and<br />

• formalise part time No Parking zone on the northern side of Boyd<br />

Street as commuter pick-up and drop-off zone, and reinforce with<br />

supplementary “Pick Up and Drop Off Only” plates.<br />

Rohini Street/Turramurra Avenue Precinct<br />

The dominant land use in this precinct is strip shop retail and business<br />

uses. The Turramurra Avenue/Gilroy Lane car park supports the strip<br />

shops by providing short stay parking. The bus interchange and railway<br />

station entrance is located in this precinct, and there is significant<br />

demand for commuter (long stay) parking as well as commuter drop off<br />

and pick up space.<br />

Analysis of a minimum and maximum redevelopment scenario show<br />

substantial surpluses in short stay parking, while being able to cater<br />

for the majority of the long stay (employee) parking needs on site. The<br />

option would exist, therefore, for <strong>Council</strong> to reconsider the number of<br />

spaces in the Turramurra Avenue/Gilroy Lane car park that need to be<br />

relocated underground. Indicatively, the car park could be reduced by up<br />

to 60 spaces under the minimum development scenario, and by up to 75<br />

spaces under a maximum development scenario.<br />

Additional parking strategies in this precinct would be mainly in the<br />

following locations:<br />

• additional on-site retail/business parking in redeveloped strip shop<br />

sites on northern side of Pacific Highway, between Rohini Street and<br />

Turramurra Avenue;<br />

• additional on-site retail/business parking in redeveloped strip shop<br />

sites on Rohini Street;<br />

• transfer Gilroy Lane car park underground, allocate accessible<br />

parking at surface and utilise undersized spaces for motorcycles/<br />

motor scooters;<br />

• due to new traffic signals at the intersection of Pacific Highway<br />

and Turramurra Avenue, the 5 existing 1hr spaces on both sides<br />

of Turramurra Avenue (between Pacific Highway and Gilroy Lane)<br />

would have to be removed. However, due to the removal of the<br />

traffic signals at the intersection of Pacific Highway with Rohini<br />

Street, these spaces could be recovered in Rohini Street via the<br />

reduction of the extent of No Stopping restrictions near Pacific<br />

Highway;<br />
